TITLE: That’s What Friends Are For AUTHOR: Jackie E-MAIL: pixie7@gte.net WEBSITE: mataharigirl21.tripod.com/television/lgm/fiction/fiction.html FEEDBACK: A necessity CATEGORY: Missing Scene, ‘The Lying Game’ RATING: G SUMMARY: What did Carol and Byers talk about right before they arrived at the warehouse? ARCHIVE: The usual places - just let me know! DISCLAIMER: If I really owned any of them, do you think I’d be writing fan fiction? *sighs* Ah, and a BIG thanks to Linda from hitting me with a plot bunny when I needed it. Thanks, hon!!!! Carol Strode sat on the passenger side of the VW van as Byers drove it through the streets of Takoma Park. She sighed as she stared straight ahead. Byers glanced over at her. “You sure you want us to handle this?” he asked. “You’re the only person I can trust right now, John. I mean, the police were not helpful, and everyone I’ve talked to seems to want to just forget about what happened to Jeff.” She sighed. “I still can’t believe he contacted me, especially after everything that’s happened between us.” “I know, but he was your brother. Even though he didn’t act like it, he did care about you.” “I know,” Carol replied quietly. She smiled slightly. “You know, John, I never thought I would ever see you working as a journalist, let alone as a journalist for a watchdog newspaper. I mean, in college, all you ever talked about was how you were going to be a career bureaucrat like your father.” Byers chuckled and smiled sadly. “Well, things changed.” He put one of his hands over hers. “Don’t worry, Carol. We’ll find out what happened to your brother.” Carol’s smile faded. “I really appreciate this, John.” Byers smiled as he turned the van down the street leading to the warehouse. “Don’t mention it.” He glanced at Carol. “Um . . . do you want to tell them about . . . you know.” Carol shrugged and sighed. “I don’t know. You saw how our friends and my parents reacted after Jeff told them what I wanted to do.” “I know,” Byers replied. “But the guys are not like that. They’re very understanding. A bit unusual at times, but really nice people once you get to know them.” Byers turned a corner and parked the van alongside the warehouse. “Well, here we are.” Byers and Carol got out. “Jimmy. I want you to meet somebody.” Carol walked around and saw Byers standing next to a tall jock with spiky blond hair. “Jimmy Bond,” Byers said. “Carol Strode.” Jimmy and Carol shook hands. “We’re going to help her catch a murderer.” Jimmy looked sympathetically at Carol.
